Question by hamsterbabies: Can you make money investing in mutual funds?
I have money in a 529 plan and an IRA. I understand those and their tax implications. I don’t understand how you make money from investing in mutual funds just normally and the tax implications. If a mutual fund sells something… then you have to pay taxes on it? I am not quite sure how that process works. I know Vanguard has funds, but I’m not sure how investing in them without the tax benefits from the IRA and such can help me. Thank you.

Mutual funds are a long term investment. You as an individual can deposit up to $ 4000/ year tax free into your IRA. Vanguard is a good fund group. Hypothetically if you made $ 50,000/ year and you deposited $ 4000 into your IRA, you would be taxed on $ 46,000/yr. Hence, the $ 4000 tax free. You can withdraw this money out of your IRA but you pay severe tax penalties. if you need other info email me

There are many ways to make money online. The real trick is sorting out the legitimate money-makers from all the scams that are out there.

There’s a terrific list at eHow that gives more than 25 ways to make money online. The list covers everything from writing (articles, blogs), to selling photography, to (believe it or not) getting paid for online jury duty and focus groups.

There’s even a site for making money listening to music and rating it, and another for playing online games.

You could do car washing, lemonade stand (instead of just lemonade u could also sell cookies or brownies with it), newspaper route, yard sale, dog walking, painting the address of houses on the curb, help elderly neighbors with yard work or something like that, you could also stand by a grocery store and help people put their bags in the car (but they might not pay), and take care of pets or peoples houses while they go on vacation, maybe babysitting or mowing lawns

My fellow employee just quit his job because he decided he could make more money playing poker. I haven’t checked up on how he’s been doing, but I’d hate to think he could make more money gambling then working a job with a guaranteed salaray.
